About Genesee Early College:
Genesee Early College is an intensive, state-of-the-art five-year school combining the best elements of the high school and early university experience. It is designed to prepare students for careers and advanced study in the medical and health professions. The school, which is run by the Genesee Intermediate School District, is a fully integrated part of the University of Michigan-Flint community.
Students attend school on the campus of The University of Michigan-Flint, with high school classes held at the William S. White building. Upon demonstrating proficiency in specific areas (usually by grade 11), students enroll in college courses at the University for high school and college credit. Successful students will graduate at the end of their fifth year with their high school diploma as well as up to 60 transferable credits towards their college degree.
No additional tuition is required for this program. This exciting program is offered by the Genesee Intermediate School District, in partnership with the University of Michigan-Flint. Other partners include Flint's six main medical care facilities, including Genesys Regional Medical Center, Hurley Medical Center, McLaren Regional Medical Center, Mott Children's Health Center, Hamilton Community Health Network, and the Greater Flint Health Coalition, as well as the Genesee Area Skills Center (GASC). GEC serves the students and community of Genesee County, Michigan, but is open to students from neighboring areas.
The Genesee Early College adheres to many of the principles of the National Middle College consortium. Its secondary instructors are all certified as highly qualified under the requirements of the No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Act.
Classes for the 2008-2009 school year will begin on September 4, with college classes beginning on August 27. We are now accepting applications from eligible high school students. Find out how to apply!
