On Saturday, October 13, four GEC students--Krissy Welch, Jaleh Darling, Karsen Bunton, and Nicole Steele--traveled with Ms. Schade, Gary Weisserman and Jeff Kupperman to Kalamazoo to participate in this year's PeaceSlam program. It was a terrific opportunity to learn more about water rights, and we're incredibly excited about working on our "call for action" project this spring with Nobel Peace Laureate Shirin Ebadi. (Ms. Ebadi was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2003 for her efforts for deomcracy, peace, and women's rights in the Middle East.)
We'll be looking for more of our students to attend April's program, and are investigating ways for GEC students to attend next September's anniversary program in Costa Rica (to be attended by up to a dozen Nobel Peace Laureates).
